CIC energiGUNE is an energy storage research centre specialized in electrochemical storage (batteries and supercapacitors), thermal energy solutions and hydrogen technologies that aims to generate disruptive scientific knowledge in materials and technological solutions related to energy, and contributing to improve industry competitiveness and sustainable development.

Within Batteries Europe Secretariat, CIC energiGUNE is responsible of providing technical expert support to WG1 on New and emerging battery technologies, coordinate the benchmarking on KPI assessment analysis and the safety and standards activities. On addition, it’s involved on technology reviews, technical documents, scientific papers and general communication and exploitation activities.

CLERENS is a leading public affairs and communications consultancy based in Brussels, specialised in advocacy, political and regulatory risk assessment, public funding, strategic communications, event management, project management and association management. CLERENS was founded in 1991 and manages EU projects focusing mainly on energy, environment, climate and mobility. Within the Batteries Europe Consortium, CLERENS is responsible for leading the Communication, Dissemination and Exploitation activities of WP6, promoting the visibility and impact of the project and disseminating project findings to a wide range of stakeholders.

The European Association for Storage of Energy (EASE) based in Brussels, Belgium, gathers over 50 members representing electric grid operators, utilities, research, academia and industry. EASE actively promotes Energy Storage in Europe and worldwide. EASE actively supports the deployment of Energy Storage as an indispensable instrument within the framework of the European energy and climate policy to deliver services to, and improve the flexibility of, the European energy system. EASE contributes to building a European platform for sharing and disseminating Energy Storage-related information and supports the transition towards a sustainable, flexible and reliable energy system in Europe.

The European Energy Research Alliance (EERA) is an association of European public research centres and universities active in low-carbon energy research. EERA pursues the mission of catalysing European energy research for a climate-neutral society by 2050. Bringing together more than 250 organisations from 30 countries, EERA is Europe’s largest energy research community. EERA coordinates its research activities through 18 Joint Programmes and is a key player in the European Union’s Strategic Energy Technology (SET) Plan and enabler of the Clean Energy Transition.

ENEA is a non-profit public body committed to research and technology development, and to providing advanced services to businesses, public administration and citizens, in the fields of energy, the environment and sustainable economic development.

ENEA’s mission is to contribute to increasing the competitiveness of Italy and promoting its sustainable development through research, technology development, and as energy efficiency agency, by supporting public administration, businesses, especially SME’s, and citizens. It is structured into four departments that carry out research, technology development and advanced services; has 13 research centres in Italy with approximately 2,300 employees, including researchers, engineers and administration staff. ENEA has also a liaison office in Brussels for the managing of EU initiatives. As reference agency on energy and new technologies for the Italian Ministries of Ecological Transition (MiTE) and Economic Development (MiSE), ENEA represents Italy in international organizations and networks such as the International Energy Agency (IEA) and European Energy Research Alliance (EERA). ENEA has over 50 years’ experience in research and innovation in the fields of energy, new technology, the environment, and sustainable economic development.

The INSTM was established in 1992 as a Consortium of Italian Universities with the goal to promote research activities in the field of Chemistry of Materials. Later it was joined by other similar Institutions and expanded its interests to the Science and Technology of Materials. The acronym INSTM stands for Consortium of Italian Universities for the Science and Technology of Materials. Nowadays it groups 50 Italian Universities, in practice all the Universities where research on Materials is carried out.

INSTM is an original bottom-up aggregation of researchers, which has a minimum of bureaucratic structure, and efficiently coordinates the activities, promotes the joint participation of INSTM groups to Italian and European projects, is active in technology transfer, also establishing spin-off enterprises, takes care of the training aspects in Materials Science and Technology. The INSTM Consortium promotes the research activities of its members (the 50 Universities) in the area of Materials Science and Technology through organizational, technical and financial support.

SINTEF Energy AS

SINTEF Energi AS is an institute for applied research dedicated to creating innovative energy solutions. We offer cutting-edge knowledge in Norway and internationally based on research that provides added-value solutions and services for our clients. SINTEF Energi AS is part of the SINTEF Group, which is one of Europe’s largest independent contract research organisations. We shape the future’s energy solutions. Our focus areas contribute towards the transition to, and achievement of, future, sustainable, energy systems.

We are active in the EU arena within energy storage and in the European Battery community, playing a significant role in Batteries Europe ETIP, and are a member of the European Battery Alliance. SINTEF works across the entire battery value chain and has an in-depth perspective on the R&I requirements of the rapidly developing battery industry and a wide contact network with both Norwegian and European companies.

SINTEF AS

SINTEF AS’ research embraces large parts of the battery value chain, from development of Li-ion technology, materials for new battery chemistries, cell design/prototyping, sensor technology to application dependent performance evaluation of prototypes/commercial cells. SINTEF AS (in collaboration with NTNU) run state-of-the-art facilities for lab scale battery materials discovery, cell assembly, and electrochemical testing/analysis.  

The new 350 m2 SINTEF Battery Lab is a pilot line for production of industrial scale battery cells. It’s 150 m2 dry room offers exploration of methods for slurry mixing, coating, drying, calendaring to cell assembly.

Competence spans raw materials production, production technology optimisation, recycling and sustainability assessments, zinc-air, redox flow, molten salt batteries, as well as supercapacitors. SINTEF AS pioneers multiscale modelling tools speeding up development of new energy storage materials and engineering integration of electrochemical devices in real systems.

VDI/VDE Innovation + Technology GmbH is a leading service provider for issues related to innovation and technology. We support and advise during the analysis of complex projects or market situations, during the promotion of research programmes from the German federal government, the German state governments and the EU and organise branch offices or contact offices for research and business. As the project sponsor, we offer the suitable solution for every step of the innovation process.
Within the Batteries Europe Consortium VDI/VDE Innovation + Technik GmbH coordinates the tasks on international collaboration, the Working Group on Cell Design and Manufacturing, the task force on digital solutions for digital batteries and supports many other tasks by building a bridge to the IPCEIs.
