Overview of International R&D&I Battery Funding and Global Benchmarks for Battery KPIs
National battery strategies vary from country to country, depending on factors such as the availability of raw materials for batteries, geopolitical landscape, commitment to sustainability, and access to financial resources for research and development. These challenges are both multinational and multifaceted and international collaboration remains crucial for the success of global battery innovation strategies. To address this, Batteries Europe has taken on the role of monitoring international developments, essential to understand the global battery innovation strategies and support structures, as well as policy objectives and instruments for creating successful battery ecosystems.
This project aims to foster partnerships and cooperation on a global scale, enabling countries to leverage their collective strengths, mitigate resource constraints, share technological expertise, and pool financial resources. International collaboration allows countries to navigate complex geopolitical situations, ensure sustainable practices across the battery value chain, and push innovation for the transition towards a cleaner, more resilient energy future. Collaboration is crucial to attaining the full potential of the battery industry, leading the way for shared prosperity and environmental stewardship across borders.
Batteries Europe has recently released the latest version of the Overview of International R&D&I Battery Funding and Global Benchmarks for Battery KPIs, focused on nine countries/regions (the EU, China, South Korea, Japan, USA, Canada, Australia, India, and Indonesia) to ensure Europe’s leadership in battery technology and to identify opportunities for international cooperation. The document provides a thorough insight into the national battery ecosystems in the aforementioned regions, as well as it gives key information on the domestic stakeholders, national battery strategy documents, main policy objectives, current research priorities, and details on the funding instruments.
