Overview of International R&D&I Battery Funding and Global Benchmarks for Battery KPIs
February 2025: The most recent set of Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for the battery industry was jointly released by Batteries Europe (BE) and the Batteries European Partnership Association (BEPA). These KPIs serve as a benchmark for future goals and industry advancement.
To ensure clarity and alignment with the sector’s ongoing development, the updated KPIs have been structured in accordance with the six Working Groups (WGs). The initiative’s collaborative working process is reflected in this structured approach, which also improves readability.
The release is accompanied by an extensive Excel document that aggregates KPI values by working group. The document contains a disclaimer detailing the methodology and scope of the work to ensure transparency. In addition to projected targets for 2027, 2029, and 2035, the benchmarking framework includes baseline values from 2025 that have been carefully evaluated using consistently published data.
This KPI benchmarking initiative, which aligns research and innovation efforts with strategic policy objectives, aims to support the ongoing development of Europe’s battery ecosystem by offering a clear roadmap for industry advancements.
Future working group sessions will cover more information on the KPIs and their implications for the industry. Read it here
